WELCOME...

Welcome to the ‘Singer/Songwriter’ page of my website, where you can find out more about me as a performer and recording artist of my own original material.

To date, I have recorded one self-released album of 12 original songs entitled ‘Just You and Me and The Stars’ which you can download here , and one self-released single called ‘Holding On’, available here.

For as long as I can remember music has been a huge part of my life. I have always associated milestone events in my life with specific songs and can often remember where I was and what I was doing when I hear a particular piece of music from my past.

My love for music predates my actual life as a performing musician which started when I was around 16 years old.  I have been writing and performing consistently ever since.

Please scroll down through this page to see and hear some examples of my original music. I do hope you enjoy them. I’d be pleased to get your feedback, so by all means send me a message via the 'Contact' section and let me know what you think…

WHAT THE CRITICS SAY...

Financed as a result of a successful crowd-funding campaign and recorded with a selection of close personal musical associates, Simon Lane's twelve-track album, entitled "Just You And Me And The Stars," showcases a plethora of influences derived from his extensive years of performing experience. It comprises entirely original songs crafted over numerous years, drawing inspiration from life, love, and the human condition. The journey begins with the track ‘Giving Up’, featuring a delightful piano introduction, followed by infectious rhythms and guitars that precede Simon’s remarkable vocals, breathing life into this uplifting piece.

‘All That I’m Looking For’ exudes an eighties vibe with its radio-friendly demeanor, reminiscent of the pace in Wang Chung's “Dance Hall Days” (for reasons unknown). ‘Sitting’ (embellished with an intricately played piano intro) and ‘I Will Be Here’ both showcase Simon's songwriting prowess—two exceptional songs that would seamlessly fit within an Elton John album.

‘Things Still Left To Find’ unveils a more tender and romantic aspect, characterized by cleverly woven lyrical crooning. "It’s been a long day and I’m tired, but I never feel more inspired, than when I’m with you." It's one of those melodies that, when you have someone special, evokes thoughts of them, igniting a warm and fuzzy sensation within.

‘Let’s Get Away’ maintains a slower pace, elegantly combining electric guitar and gentle piano for a profound impact. A fantastic middle eight lends depth to the tune. ‘Sundown’ serves as a dedication to the end of the day, an inspirational piece that celebrates the anticipation of spending the evening with one's beloved. ‘All She Wants’ stands as another exquisitely composed track, with lyrics that resonate deeply and connect readily with listeners.

‘Midnight’ presents a wholly distinct atmosphere, featuring acoustic-led elements and Simon's smoldering vocal delivery. ‘The Ticket’ employs a wealth of clever analogies to reflect on past and future life experiences, appreciating one's present blessings while eagerly anticipating what lies ahead.

‘My Life’ injects danceable rhythms into the penultimate track—a lively fusion of electric guitar and keys, an ode to joyous celebration. The closing piece, the eponymous track ‘Just You and Me and the Stars,’ is another romantic ballad that could serve as an ideal accompaniment to an intimate Valentine's Day meal for two.

In conclusion, the album comprises 12 tracks woven together by a musician who undoubtedly possesses a gift for songwriting and musical creation. Simon has amalgamated a compilation of deeply personal songs, each penned from the heart and meticulously pieced together with unwavering passion. This album stands as tangible proof of what can be achieved with determination and focus. The 72 backers who supported this endeavor should undoubtedly take pride in their investment. Simon and his team have exceeded expectations and delivered a truly remarkable work.

PRESS...

“This evening’s first act is a singer/songwriter Simon Lane… it’s immediately clear what a fine vocal tone this chap has…”

“Sometimes you can listen to an artist and once you leave the gig that is the last you see/think/hear of them. Simon’s songs have made an impression on me and clearly many members in the audience too. The songs are emotive and have powerful lyrics to which many of us can relate to.”

“Midnight” is a beautiful, atmospheric number…”

“I Will Be Here” is a number that will touch anyone who hears it…”

“…the person clearly inspired Simon’s writing skills to create this largely unheard masterpiece.”

(“I Will Be Here”)… is a song that just gives you goosebumps…”

“Simon’s voice perfectly matches these songs and it has a beautifully balanced tone that penetrates your soul if you are freely open to it.”

“Simon Lane is certainly an unheard gem and tonight in front of this audience he has performed possibly one of the best “Live & Unheard” sets witnessed in this room.”

"I already told you a lot about Simon Lane the last time he performed here. He's a Brit who speaks French with a touch of the local accent.

His singing is the perfect blend of bitter-sweet irony, British restraint and southern sensuality. With this stunning mixture he delivers ballads of his own composition more ardent than melancholic, plus a few cover versions that do not lose anything when sung in his amazing voice."

"A great evening at le Baryton in Lanton thanks to Simon Lane. His songs, and his interpretation of covers, transported us to the British Isles all the way from the South West of France. Thank you, Simon, for our musical journey."
